The version used in this review will be out in the Fall of 2019. I have been testing the Kor Strata Hoody for 3 months at the time of this review. I found this to be a great jacket for backcountry touring in temps of 20-40 degrees. It does its job of providing wind resistance, slight warmth, and breathability and does so very well. You get two hand pockets, a hood, and a functional fit.
Packed with Primaloft Gold Active insulation, its an ultralight on-route. There are not a lot of features with the Kor Strata Hoody. The Kor Strata Hooded Jacket is a minimalist design for any kind of undertaking. The hood fits over a hat for touring or over my head, just fine. The hand pockets, although small, are placed high enough to be used with a backpack. The sleeves are long enough for full coverage and the hem is long enough to keep snow and wind out of the backside. The XL that Mountain Hardwear sent over fit my 6’1″ 205 frame well. The Gold Active insulation in the body does a great job of providing just the right amount of warmth while dumping extra heat.
Think backcountry skiers, splitboarders, fat bikers, etc. It works! For those of you who are active in cool to cold temps, this kind of kit is for you. It does handle snow well but wets out quickly in the rain although I've still remained pretty dry.The combination of Primaloft Gold Active insulation and fuzzy fleece made for a very comfortable jacket. I've yet to apply DWR but will need to before the next season. It does have below average rain protection but it's not really made for that. The jacket is very lightweight, exceptionally comfortable, has a soft but a durable (so far) face, doesn't bind anywhere, has above average wind protection and also above average breathabiity. Still not slim fitting though which was fine for me. Campsaver was SUPER solid with their return policy, got me the L quickly, and it was winner. The Kor Strata doesn't have the techy look like so many others, which made it a perfect candidate, so I sized up to an XL given that I'm a solid Large in everything. I live in the mountains where night time temps are very rarely over 50 degrees in the summer so I was looking for something that would be suitable for trail to town. I'd read that the jacket has a slim fit which makes sense given that its ability to act like a midlayer.
This is an excellent jacket that may not deliver the "best in class" features of some of the others out there but it comes in at a price point that's far less expensive even at full retail.
